Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the Articulance iOS app and this website. Installing or using the app means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the app.

1. The licence

Articulance is licensed, not sold. Your licence is Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the standard EULA), which applies in full. The terms on this page sit alongside it and describe the parts specific to Articulance. Where the two genuinely conflict, Apple's standard EULA governs.

In short: a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not redistribute it, resell it, rent it out, or reverse-engineer it except where the law says you may regardless of what a contract says.

2. One purchase, everything included

Articulance is a paid app: you buy it once on the App Store and every feature is yours — unlimited rehearsals, the live read, the full post-session report with its timestamped receipts and its playback, your complete history, your trends, your voice print, The Room, scripts and the live teleprompter, "Say it again" re-take drills, the executive debrief, and the option to keep recordings on the device. There is no subscription, no account, no free tier and no in-app purchase.

3. Purchases

Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you buy the app. All transactions, refunds and billing are handled by Apple — we cannot process a refund ourselves. Refund requests go to reportaproblem.apple.com. The app you bought stays yours; there is nothing to renew and nothing to restore beyond re-downloading the app from the App Store.

Keeping recordings is on by default with a notice, and an existing off choice stays off. You can turn off Keep audio for replay in Settings at any time. Rehearsal and Room answer recordings are kept only on this device and are never uploaded or included in device backups. Recordings you have kept remain playable and deletable whatever you later set the preference to.

4. What Articulance is, and what it is not

Articulance is a measurement and practice tool. It reports acoustic properties of your speech and compares them with your own earlier rehearsals.

It is not a medical device, and nothing in it is a diagnosis. It does not detect, screen for, assess or treat any voice, speech, language, hearing or psychological condition, and it must not be used as though it did. If you have a concern about your voice or your speech, please see a qualified clinician — a laryngologist or a speech-language pathologist.

It is also not an assessment of you as a person. The app deliberately produces no score, grade, percentile, ranking or verdict, and it should not be used to evaluate, screen or select anybody — including in hiring, admissions, performance review or any other decision about a person. It was not designed or validated for that and it would not be fit for it.

5. Your content is yours

Your rehearsals, recordings, scripts, transcripts and measurements belong to you. We claim no licence over them and no rights in them, and — since none of it reaches us — we could not exercise any if we did. Keeping backups is your responsibility; deleting the app deletes everything it holds.

You are responsible for what you record. Recording other people may require their consent where you live, and that is on you rather than on us.

6. Accuracy

Articulance measures real acoustic quantities and is careful about it: where it cannot make a measurement honestly it says which one and why instead of printing a number. Even so, every measurement has error, and things like microphone choice, distance, room noise and the limits of on-device speech recognition all move the results. Treat the numbers as evidence to listen against, not as ground truth.

Word-level measurements are supported in English. The app declines them explicitly for other languages rather than reporting confident nonsense.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, change or discontinue features. Where a change would remove something you have paid for, we will say so. Requirements can change with new iOS releases; the current requirement is iOS 26.0 or later.

8. Disclaimer and liability

The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law allows, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the app is limited to the amount you actually paid for it in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities or lost data.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and you may have statutory consumer rights that these terms cannot override.

9. Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Articulance. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts located there have jurisdiction — except where the law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, which these terms do not take away.
